A CAMPAIGN TO SAVE CONSTELLATION just might work! I say we all give it a serious try! Obama is dead wrong with this move to ax America's just re-emerging deep space capability. So what, if it might take till 2025 for reaching the Moon once again?! I'd rather that happen a thousand percent, than to watch NASA do nothing but endless circling around the Earth! You heard all that crap about extending the ISS till the 2020s, right? Well, before the Columbia Disaster, NASA officials were also saying that the Shuttle would fly clear till that very year, also. Sound familiar? All these stupidly thought-out retreats just do is keep us chained to LEO! Dammit people, we have got to get out of earth orbit!! What the hell is going on in the minds of these Mars zealots?! Do they really believe that 50 or 60 years flying over & over in LEO is going to prepare us for the major challenges of interplanetary space-flight?! These hard-headed, dead-set, inflexible Mars fanatics are precisely the ones who are taking the knife on NASA now. The Augustine commision was gluted with them! They finally made this insane presidential decision possible. Obama listened to the Trekkies, to the sci-fi crowd, who care not one iota about REAL space exploration. They just want to be entertained. Well we who ARE flexible, pragmatic, & realistic about true deep space venturing must not let this threatened cancelation of such a valuable project stand! We must petition Congress! Already a JOINT STATE LEGISLATURE RESOLUTION in Alabama, supporting the CONTINUANCE of Project Constellation has happened in the past few days. There are wiser statesmen who, if they could get the helm, they would get Obama to reverse this ghastly awful mistake. We all should band together in coalition, to make this happen. Let's SAVE CONSTELLATION! For the sake of bringing about a truly great spacefaring future.

Dammit James I don't even know what to say to that. My entire life my ONE goal has been to go into space. Ask anyone. I don't express it much because I always saw it as a pipe dream and didn't have nearly the modivation to push my dream but when you went off to Texas it was so cool to be able to say that I know a guy who works for NASA! I hope what ever it is that you found keeps you happy. I can't really know what that project was to you, but I do remember many a night at 3AM talking to you about it. Get back to Kansas soon, it needs smart people.

[...] He created his own blog a while back called The Houston Chronicles which resides on my blogroll even though it was nearly dead for months at a time. Had we not all been scared for him as he rode out a hurricane I doubt if I would ever had mentioned it at all. Anyway, he reworked everything and has returned to blogging with occasional enthusiasm. Yesterday he gave us an introspective look at how he sees the future of NASA, Project Constellation, and the value of his own skill set. It’s well written and worth a look even if you’ve never met him, but for those of you out there who know James it’s even more thought provoking. Check it out here.
